Liberton Bridge Drive

Liberton Bridge Drive

Liberton Golf Club held its first Bridge Drive on Monday 23rd April 2018.

There were 21 tables playing Bridge and a delicious afternoon tea, so the function room was buzzing all afternoon.

We also raised £1600! This allows us to make a fantastic donation to our chosen Charity : ‘Erskine – Caring for Veterans’ and also an excellent contribution to new chairs in the club dining room.

I would like to say a massive thank you to

  • all of those individuals and Companies who so generously contributed to the raffles
  • to the very merry band of helpers – Davida Simpson, Val Beamish, Moira Poyser, Jacqui Loudon, Sandra Love, Jean Short (I hope I haven’t left anyone out)
  • David Cree and the catering team for their contribution and good natured assistance and patience
  • all the kind players and club members for purchasing raffle tickets
  • Nina Dunn : for her planning and coordination of the whole event

Thank you eveyone!

Charity Mixed Foursomes

Twenty eight couples thoroughly enjoyed a great day of golf followed by a social get together which raised £500 for the Marie Curie charity.

Although a fund raiser for great causes and a social event the golf had a competitive edge with two trophies, scratch and handicap, being played for. Congratulations to Fiona Hume and Tommy Paterson on winning the Helen Flockhart Memorial Trophy for the best scratch sore and Jacqui Loudon and Joe Douglas on successfully defending the George Wilson Trophy for the best handicap.

Many thanks need to be given, to Evelyn Hogg and Anne White for organising and running the event, to Jim Gardner for his usual generous support in donating the prizes for the winners, to Iain Seath for his donations and all his work before and during the event, to all the competitors for bringing along great prizes for the raffle and to the bar and catering staff for looking after everyone in the clubhouse.

Mount Vernon Breakfast Update

Mount Vernon Sportsman’s Breakfast held on Sunday 25th March was, as usual, a fantastic success with the event managing to raise a fantastic £6,790.

The organisers would like to thank everyone who donated prizes, money, bought Raffle tickets, Hamper tickets & those who  attended, without them the success of the day would not be possible.

This now brings, Mount Vernon’s grand total to a staggering  £95,222.

The general consensus was that the Breakfast was one of our best to date with the three speakers at the top of their game and very entertaining

They now move on to the  Marie Curie Golf Day on Saturday 25th August and hopefully with support we will reach the magical total of £100,000 which goes directly to Marie Curie CancerCare, Frogston Road, Edinburgh.

** Congratulations go to those members who organise this, you know who you are! Without their efforts the whole day would not be possible. – Editor

Winning weekend for Kieran

Winning weekend for Kieran

Well done to Kieran Cantley for winning the prestigious Craigmillar Park Open. Kieran returned a 4 round total of 13 under par winning by two shots. This continues his winning streak following last week’s Scottish Champion of Champions victory at Leven Links. Kieran is pictured here being presented with the trophy by CPGC Captain John Hall.
